Isamaya Ffrench is your favorite makeup artist’s favorite makeup artist. She’s the editorial makeup artist of record with celebrity clients that include Bella Hadid and Lady Gaga. Her brand, Isamaya, has been around for three years, but it’s just become very accessible for the first time with the launch of its core collection.
Previously, the brand made limited edition makeup collections with the same high fashion slant as the work she’s known for. While that’s ideal for a maximalist makeup-lover, such as myself, I understand that it’s not for everyone. Enter: The core collection, which is comprised of 13 products for everyday wear.
I’ve spent the last few weeks testing 12 of the 13 products (the lip plumper was only recently restocked) and I’ve come to a consensus. There are three must-have products to buy if you’re keeping your shopping cart slim: the Microbial Gel Face Prep Primer, 5 Point Lift Color Correcting Concealer, and Skin Enhancing Cream Blush and Highlighter Duo. Then, there are five products I love and recommend if your wallet or routine can make space for them, and three I’d skip.

- 5 Point Lift Color Correcting Concealer, $40
- Skin Enhancing Cream Blush and Highlighter Duo, $39
Microbial Gel Face Prep Primer
This primer is so unique, I don’t have an existing skin care or makeup product to compare it to. It’s a hydrating formula with the texture of an arnica gel, plus it dries quickly, leaves a little glow, and smooths uneven texture. It’s also antimicrobial, being that it forms a layer around your skin that protects it from all of the yuck of the outside world.
Though the primer wears beautifully under a full face of makeup, I often wear it on its own. My skin doesn’t get grimy or oily throughout the day and its state actually improves rather than deteriorates;it’s perhaps Isamaya’s greatest tangible achievement.
5 Point Lift Color Correcting Concealer
I have chronic dark circles and genetic melasma—a combination that means even the most potent eye creams can only improve, never eradicate my under-eye bags. It’s a truth that’s easier to come to terms with when the 5 Point Lift Concealer exists.
I dab two dots under my eyes and around my upper lip, blending with my fingers, and yet I look (or at least feel) like some extra wattage has been added to my face. The cherry on top is that this concealer is formulated with caffeine, which has long-term brightening properties.
Skin Enhancing Cream Blush and Highlighter Duo
I cannot believe how creamy this highlight and blush duo is without being a liquid formula; it’s like room-temperature butter. I can easily pick it up with my fingers and glide it across my skin, but texture aside, the colors are sheer but buildable. The overall effect is that previously impossible-to-bottle je ne sais quoi.

Color Correcting Skin Tint Serum
If I had the right color-correcting products, I’d use less concealer and foundation. The problem is that they never work for my skin—they’re always too chalky, too hard to blend, and never look seamless. Isamaya has fixed that with these six sheer but effective serum-like color correctors that each address a different issue.
My favorite is olive because it’s a close match to my skin tone, so I can smear it all over my face in place of a tinted moisturizer, concealer, or foundation. I’m also enamored with pistachio since redness is a ceaseless issue for me, and my sister—who is always complaining about looking jaundiced and tired—has been borrowing the lilac shade from me on a near-daily basis.
Face Glaze Skin Primer
Face Glaze is the second primer in the Isamaya line. The difference? This is the one you reach for when you want the plumpest, juiciest, and dewiest complexion possible. I usually apply this around my cheekbones before foundation, but I also use it after applying makeup, slicking it over my eyelid and on the center of my lips to give them an inimitable glassy look.
As for the products I’d skip, none of them are bad but they aren’t where I’d allocate my money. The contour stick and liquid eyeliner are simply not things I’d use from any brand. As for the mascara, while I appreciate the infusion of growth serum, the effect is too minimal for my taste.
That aside, I’m obsessed with the Isamaya products I do like and will be snatching up any and every future release.
