A 1098-Treports tuition and other educational expenses in a statement form that Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) provide to their students for tax preparing purposes.

IHL's had the option of choosing between two reporting methods:
- Box 1 — Tuition Paid[1]due to federal regulation, Columbia College will only report data in this box beginning with the 2018 1098-T's.
- Box 2 — Tuition Billed[2]Prior to 2018, Columbia College reported data in Box #2 on the 1098-T tax form. Based on institutional reporting requirements under federal law, beginning with the 2018 Tax Year, Columbia College will report Box 1. The 1098-T form only reports tuition paid towards Qualified Tuition Related Expenses (QTRE) during the calendar year, from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 of the specified calendar year.
1Box 1 will reflect payments made from: personal payment, federal grants/loans, scholarships, GI Bill© payments, etc. Any excess funds that paid beyond the QTRE will not be reported in Box 1. Refunds from any excess payments will not be reported in Box 1.
2The 1098T form is generated to assist eligible students in applying for specific education-based tax credits. If you or your tax preparer has additional questions regarding how to use form 1098T or tax credit eligibility, please contact theInternal Revenue Serviceor call 1-800-829-1040.
Methods of Delivery
It is important to remember that 1098-Ts are made available no later than Jan. 31 each year. If mailed, they will be post-marked by this date. If electronic, they will be available onlineby this date.
The 1098-T will be mailed to the address we have on file for students who have opted to receive their 1098-T by mail.
Mailing addresses may be changed by logging in toSelf Service.
Technology Requirements
To view your 1098-T online, you will need to use either Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.Unfortunately, the form is not able to be downloaded on Safari.
The 1098-T form is a PDF form viewable through Adobe Acrobat. If you are experiencing an issue viewing the document, please ensure that you have the latest update of Adobe.
Eligibility
The 1098-T reflects payments made by the student towards the QTRE. Students may not receive a 1098-T if there are no eligible payments.
Box 5 — Scholarships or grants:Scholarships and grants generally include all payments received from 3rd parties (excluding family members and loan proceeds). This includes payments received from governmental and private entities such as the Pell Grant, Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, civic, religious organizations and nonprofit entities.
Reporting Requirements Between Calendar Years
Often, students register for classes in December that do not begin until January. In those cases, the tuition paid for those classes could have been reported on the prior year’s 1098-T, depending on the calendar year the payments were made.
For example: Ifa studentregistered in December 2018 for a class that began in January 2019, the payment for that class will have been reported on the applicable year, depending if the payment was made in December of 2018 or January of 2019.
1098-T Reprints
1098-T (2011-Present)
All students can view their 1098-T forms for the year 2011 through the present within the ePayment Portal. Non-student Authorized User access is achieved through the main Columbia College website and logging in through the ePayment link. Student access is granted by logging into myPortal and accessing ePayments within this venue. Go to myPortal > Make a Payment (left panel) > My Account (tab) > Statements > 1098-T Tax Statements. Information for the current year will be loaded no later than January 31 and can be reprinted at any time by following the previous logins.
1098-T (prior to 2010)
1098-T forms for the calendar year 2010 and earlier are no longer able to be reprinted by our Business Office.If you need account information for 2010 or a prior year, you can request an Itemized Billing Statement through the Verification of Payment and Billing Request form found by searching in your myPortal account, or by emailingSUCCESS@CCIS.edu.Please allow up to 5 business days for your request to be processed and the Itemized Billing Statement to be returned to you via email,or 10 business days if you prefer the information to be mailed to your home address.
Students whose addresses were not correct at the time of the original mailing may update their address throughSelf Service.
